The Voices Project

The Voices Project is a collaborative initiative that empowers survivors of abuse by involving them in the expressive arts. It culminates in a meaningful presentation where their stories of resilience and hope are shared through creative performance.

This initiative emerged from Donna Penna’s Expressions of the Soul for Women and Theater Speak classes, in collaboration with Evans Counseling Center and Dr. Heather Evans, LCSW. Dr. Evans, as founder of The Voices of Survivors Project, has provided a platform for survivors of human trafficking and violence to share their experiences through photography.

The enthusiasm is contagious! Together with other organizations and individuals, we aim to create an evening where survivors share their personal journeys of healing and hope through performance art. This celebration of freedom and new life will also feature counselors and other organizations, showcasing their missions and support systems.

Participants will attend weekly classes culminating in a transformative presentation. The final presentation, Voices, is a powerful dance, drama, music, and art production that shares stories of overcoming abuse and offers hope to those whose voices have been silenced. We anticipate the first production to take place in the fall of 2025.

The Voices Project offers a significant step forward for participants as they reclaim their lives and celebrate their resilience!

And the impact won’t end with the performance! Post-production, the classes, workshops, and other presentations will continue to empower more survivors, ensuring this becomes an ongoing project of healing and expression.

As you can see, this is an exciting and ambitious undertaking!

Everyone is worthy of living a healthy, productive life. This is our small part in bringing healing to the world!
